Ok, have you seen those ads with anthropomorphic M&Ms hopping around to a song with an accordion in the background?

Here's the song: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8ME5644G ..it's a grand little song by a band I'm fond of. Want lyrics? Try here.

Folks! It's not a happy song! It's 100% Grade-A Sarcasm! Stop trying to play it off as a chipper song!

Edit to Add: And thanks to [info]1_and_the_many, here's the (fairly literal) video for it.

That's odd. What's it's doing when you try?

In the meantime, try giving http://download.yousendit.com/393CFAC5723F8655 a shot?

I have not seen the ad in question but perhaps they are trying to suggest you take up an M&M habit to the point that you turn into a soulless husk of what you once were, waking up with M&M stains around your mouth and your apartment littered with empty M&M packets wondering where it all went wrong.

Want to see said ad (or at least, one of the M&M ones that use that The The song)? Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QobQxOoPBYU

Yousendit loves me much more than that other place. At least it doesn't spit on me nearly as much.

It is in fact the McGee Alice and Cheshire Cat. I think they were very large models of them inside the window of some sort of shop in Picadilly Circus..

And strangely, a Google search for Piccadilly McGee Alice "Cheshire Cat" isn't ferreting up anything very handy.

Not the first time a song has been used in an incorrect context, and it probably won't be the last.

I remember when 'Every Breath You Take' was out. My dad would get so incensed with people using it as a wedding 'first dance' song. He'd grumble about it being about some psycho not being able to let his ex go, but people only listened to the pretty music and the chorus, never really hearing the words.

The best in-context use of that song was in a skit on Saturday Night Live.

The premise was a talk-show where stalkers talk about their stalkees, how long they've stalked, their advice on to-be stalkers, etc.. and they used that as a theme song for the fake show.

Shouldn't be too hard to dig up YouTube-ily, since Christopher Walken was quite charming in it ("So how long have you been stalking your ex-wife?" "Who? My ex-wi.. oh! You mean BITCH.")
